Collection, 1861-1864, consisting of two letters. The first letter, 1861 Oct. 27, from George Baker, in Norfolk, Va., to his brother and sister, regarding the battle of Leesburg, Va., his attitude toward prisoners of war and how he thinks the U.S. has killed all the Confederate prisoners captured, and another battle near Chesapeake Bay. The second letter, 1864 July 23, from C.C. McDowell, of the 45th Ala. Infantry, near Atlanta, Ga., to his sister. He describes some of the casualties that he knew personally that occurred during the battle of Chickamauga, Tenn., as well as describing the devastating losses there and at the battle fought the day before he wrote the letter near Atlanta.
